DK Esmeralda One Tops Final Session of the 2026 Subasta Selecta Yearling Sale at $58,716

The third and final session of the XLII Subasta Selecta Yearling Sale concluded yesterday, August 22.

The session appeared to reflect the cool temperatures in the area, as although there was a crowd in attendance, several yearlings received little attention, with some going unnoticed or attracting bids that did not exceed the opening price of 80,000 pesos.

Against that backdrop, DK Esmeralda One, Hip #415, consigned by Cuadra La Presita, stood out when bidding closed at 1,010,000 pesos (approximately $58,716 USD). The price was the highest of the day and the second-highest of the entire sale.

The filly, foaled March 12, 2025, at Cuadra La Presita, is by Bullish One, a son of First Down Dash, and out of Corona Mexicana, by Corona Cartel. The cross has already produced proven runners, including DK Kata Cartel SI 94, winner of $155,531 in Mexico, including the Futurity Subasta Selecta (RG2), and runner-up in the Derby Desafío Crianza Mexicana. Her sister DK Mexicana earned $67,915 in Mexico, winning the Futurity Criadores Mexicanos and finishing second in the Clásico Arcadio Espinosa.

However, racing fans may best remember another sister known in match racing as “Doña Kata,” who holds a reported, unofficial record of 13.56 seconds for 300 varas castellanas at Hipódromo El Fresno in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The gray filly KC Streakin Lady, Hip #419, brought 410,000 pesos (approximately $23,835 USD).

Foaled January 29, 2025, she is by stakes-placed runner and leading Mexican sire Krash Cartel, out of Cowgirl Streak, by Mr Jess Perry. The cross has already produced Cowgirl Krash, winner of $39,156 in Mexico, including the Clásico César Pedrero Anaya.

KC Streakin Lady's second dam is Royal Streak, by Royal Quick Dash, a $57,680 earner whose notable offspring include Jetblack Gold Moment, a stakes winner and stakes-placed runner in the United States.

The day's third-highest price belonged to the brown colt NL Eye Of The Eagle, who brought 405,000 pesos (approximately $23,545 USD). Consigned by SR Racing Stables, he went through the ring as Hip #473.

He is from the first crop of Gallant Warrior, by One Famous Eagle, and is out of Eyes Racin, by Favorite Cartel.

Although Gallant Warrior did not race, the colt carries a strong genetic combination through his female family. His second dam, Miss Racy Eyes, by Mr Eye Opener, was a stakes winner and stakes-placed runner who also became a successful producer. His third dam, Miss Race Vike, by Racin Free, was a Superior Race Horse who earned $263,661 and was a stakes winner and stakes-placed runner.

Miss Race Vike's produce includes Miss Racy Eyes, a champion 3-year-old filly and earner of $485,113; One Sweet Racy, by One Sweet Jess, a champion aged mare who earned $387,423; and Dashin Belladona, by Fishers Dash, who earned $49,126 and was stakes-placed and a stakes finalist.
