CT So So Political Brings $500,000 to Lead 2026 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Opener

Twenty-four six-figure yearlings sold during Friday’s opening session of the 2026 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, led by Hip #191, CT So So Political, who brought $500,000. This year’s opening-session topper surpassed the $390,000 high seller from the first night of the 2025 sale.

The 2026 opening session saw 151 yearlings sell for gross receipts of $8,766,500, compared with 186 yearlings bringing $11,786,500 during the opening session in 2025. This year’s average of $58,056 was down 8.4% from $63,368 last year, while the median was $37,000 compared with $47,000 a year ago.

Red River Equine LLC, as agent for Bues Quarter Horses McColee Land & Livestock and Whitmire Ranch, handled three of Friday’s four highest-priced yearlings, including sale-topper CT So So Political, $300,000 second-high seller Corbys Corona and $250,000 co-third-high seller WR Whistelin Cowgirl. Marty Powers, agent for Newcomb Racing, consigned the other $250,000 co-third-high seller, Sweet Rhythm.

Hip #191, CT So So Political, topped the opening session when West Texas Racing Partners LLC purchased the sorrel colt for $500,000. Consigned by Red River Equine LLC, agent for Beus Quarter Horses, CT So So Political is by Apollitical Jess and out of So So Beautiful, by Favorite Cartel.

So So Beautiful is a full sister to champions Cyber Attack ($1,721,346) and Enforce ($606,079), Grade 1 winner and No. 1 leading second-year sire Cyber Monday ($538,428), as well as Grade 1 winners Bomb Cyclone ($1,446,063), Powerful Favorite ($1,226,875), and Runforyourlife ($620,822).

CT So So Political’s second dam is AQHA Dam of Distinction Remember Me Rose, a multiple champion producer with 29 winners and 37 ROM from 40 starters.

Hip #142, Corbys Corona, brought $300,000, the second-highest seller of the session. Scott and Jaime Bryant purchased the sorrel filly by leading sire Corona Cartel out of Budder Think Twice, by First Down Dash. She was consigned by Red River Equine LLC, agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC.

Corbys Corona is a three-quarter sister to 2026 Los Alamitos Oaks (G1) winner Beuteeful ($547,515) and a half-sister to All American Invitational winner Political Thinker ($66,949).

Her dam, Budder Think Twice, is a blue hen mare who has produced two stakes winners and seven stakes-placed runners, with 14 winners and 16 ROM from 19 starters. Budder Think Twice was second in the Governor’s Cup Futurity (G2) and earned $134,745. She is a full sister to stakes winners Scoop Of Sunshine ($200,224) and Budderhomesngarden ($120,958), and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and sire Igotyourtac ($577,067).

Hip #184, Sweet Rhythm, and Hip #188, WR Whistelin Cowgirl, tied as the third-highest sellers of the evening at $250,000 each.

Sweet Rhythm was consigned by Marty Powers, agent for Newcomb Racing, and purchased by Scott and Jaime Bryant. The sorrel filly is by No. 2 leading second-year sire Dulce Sin Tacha and out of Celtic Rhythm, by Apollitical Jess.

Sweet Rhythm is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Show N Tell Cartel ($292,628). Her dam is a full sister to stakes winners Celtic Emblem ($577,377), DF AJ Green Leaves ($302,494), and DF Lord Garvan ($90,278).

WR Whistelin Cowgirl was purchased for $250,000 by Lainie Whitmire. Consigned by Red River Equine LLC, agent for Whitmire Ranch, the sorrel filly is by leading sire Flying Cowboy 123.

WR Whistelin Cowgirl is a half-sister to Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity qualifier WR Desperado ($125,181). She is out of the industry’s richest money-earning mare and World Champion Whistle Stop Cafe ($2,335,831), who is a half-sister to three graded stakes winners, Inspyre ($218,220), So Rapido ($122,317) and Marfilmio ($97,444).

Five consignors recorded opening-session sales exceeding $500,000. Robicheaux Ranch Inc., agent, led all consignors with 12 yearlings selling for $825,000. Bobby D. Cox followed with 12 selling for $626,000, while MJ Farms, agent, sold 19 for $602,000. Rancho El Cabresto Inc. sold five for $546,000, and Red River Equine LLC, agent for Beus Quarter Horses, sold yearlings totaling $541,000.

Dulce Sin Tacha led the opening session by average among sires, with two yearlings averaging $156,000 and grossing $312,000. Apollitical Jess had nine sell for an average of $142,667 and a session-leading gross of $1,284,000 among the top five by average. Corona Cartel had four average $138,500 for $554,000.

Flying Cowboy 123 was represented by 23 yearlings that averaged $93,913 and grossed $2,160,000, while Eye Am King had four sell for an average of $75,000 and a $300,000 gross.

Favorite Cartel led the dam sires by average, with three yearlings averaging $198,000 and grossing $594,000. Freighttrain B had three average $112,667 for $338,000, followed by First Down Dash with six averaging $100,333 and grossing $602,000.

Jess Good Candy had three yearlings average $96,333 for $289,000, while Apollitical Jess rounded out the top five dam sires by average with 10 yearlings averaging $69,600 and grossing $696,000.
