Wyoming-Bred Juveniles Chase WABRA Futurity Berths Saturday At Sweetwater Downs

The road to the WABRA Futurity takes center stage Saturday afternoon at Sweetwater Downs, where 46 Wyoming-bred juveniles will race the clock in five trial heats for a chance to return for one of the meet’s biggest events.

The 11-race program gets underway with a 1:00 p.m. first post, and the WABRA Futurity Trials highlight the afternoon. The 2-year-olds will compete over 330 yards, with the 10 fastest qualifiers advancing to the $100,000-added WABRA Futurity on September 26. The next 10 fastest will earn berths in the $25,000-added WABRA Consolation.

The five trials are scheduled as races two through six, with the opening heat expected to load into the gate at approximately 1:25 p.m.

Living The Dreamm leads the group of promising youngsters as the 5-2 morning-line favorite in race four, the third trial of the afternoon. The 2-year-old gelding enters Saturday's trials after a hard-fought maiden victory, in which he broke sharply and held on to prevail by a head.

Prior to that effort, Living the Dreamm finished third in the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity. Consistency has been a hallmark of his young career, as he has finished on the board in each of his five starts, earning $32,780 for owner CG Racing, LLC.

Bred in Wyoming by CG Racing, LLC and David Hill, Living the Dreamm is a son of Boadacious Dash out of the Ec Jet One mare Kd Ladys Luck. Trainer Jarrett Mills will send him to the gate from post eight, with jockey Aram S. Martinez aboard.

Another accomplished trial competitor will step into the spotlight in race five, the fourth WABRA Futurity trial, with Dashn Steffie installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

The 2-year-old filly has already proven she can deliver when qualification is on the line. Through four career starts, Dashn Steffie has qualified for both the Wyoming Bred Futurity and the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity, winning her trial heat in each event before facing tougher luck in the finals.

Dashn Steffie is by Jr Dynasty Mountain and out of the Moves by Maknmoves mare Steffies Dashn Moves. Bred in Wyoming by Ron and Laurie Moosman, she races for Bar 3 Quarter Horses and is trained by Kylie Valenzuela. Jose J. Olivo will ride from post seven.

With 46 Wyoming-bred hopefuls vying for just 10 coveted spots in the WABRA Futurity and another 10 consolation spots, every fraction of a second will matter Saturday afternoon. Five trials, 330 yards, and one goal will set the stage as Sweetwater Downs determines which rising stars will return on September 26 with $100,000 added and a WABRA Futurity title waiting at the finish line.
