Willis’ Arrivals Vs. Stanley Cartel Face Off In Sgt Pepper Feature
LOS ALAMITOS, CA–AUGUST 21, 2024–Eddie Willis’ recent arrivals have been outstanding over the past months. Since July 27, the former AQHA champion trainer has won races at Los Alamitos with local newcomers D Fawn, Frans Dynasty, Freedom Fyrst, and Dash For Power.
The trainer will now look to win a stakes race with a couple of recent additions to his California stable in Zynda Racing’s Relentless Coronado and RH Bros LLC and Anastacio Cavazos, Jr.’s Mfs Cheerio. The talented sophomores are among the top contenders in the $40,000 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap at 350 yards at Los Alamitos on Saturday night.
Relentless Coronado returns to Los Alamitos after a solid campaign at Remington Park where he won a trial and qualified to Grade 1 the Remington Park Derby. He also succeeded here last season, winning his trial to the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity and running fifth in the final.
The son of Hes Relentless ran second to eventual Grade 1 winner Asscher in the Holiday Handicap on December 30 before heading to Oklahoma to start his 3-year-old season. He’s had success here and will be one to watch in the Sgt Pepper Feature.
Meanwhile, Mfs Cheerio lands at Los Alamitos with a tremendous record, including $143,289 in earnings and a victory in the John Deere Ruidoso Downs Juvenile Challenge last year. The KVN Corona gelding also qualified and ran sixth in the Grade 2 Heritage Place Derby and last year was a finalist to the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity. He’s won four of 11 career starts.
Dunn Ranch and Weetona Stanley’s Stanley Cartel awaits the two shippers as he’ll put his perfect record on the line. The colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon has won all three of his starts, including 1 3/4 length allowance on May 4. Three others will also race.
