CLAREMORE, OK.—October 3, 2026
The Monday afternoon card at Will Rogers Downs will feature ten races, highlighted by the inaugural trials for the Will Rogers Oaks. Twenty-six sophomore fillies will compete in three trial heats, with races six through eight run at 440 yards. The ten fastest qualifiers will advance to the inaugural $50,000-added Will Rogers Oaks on October 19.
The afternoon will also feature some of the top Paint and Appaloosa runners in the ninth race, the $15,000 Henry Bowlan Memorial Stakes. A field of six 3-year-olds and older will compete at 300 yards. The tenth and final race of the afternoon is the Grade 1 $30,000 Pot O Gold Futurity. For a closer look at both stakes’ races, see the related story.
The Will Rogers Oaks trials have drawn a talented group of sophomore fillies, including several proven stakes winners and graded stakes performers.
In the opening trial, race six, Amarillis returns to Will Rogers Downs following an impressive victory last season in the Grade 3 $512,000 Black Gold Fillies Futurity. She continued her success this season with a win in the Grade 3 $183,000 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Oaks. The accomplished filly has earned $311,047 from five career victories for owners Dusty Rose Ranch, LLC.
The daughter of Favorite Cartel, out of the Dominyun mare Astranomical, was bred in Oklahoma by M. C. Stucks. Stacey L. Capps trains Amarillis, who will break from post nine with her regular rider, Cody R. Smith, aboard.
Chew Bac Cah enters race seven and the second trial as the 2-1 morning-line favorite. She arrives at the trials after winning the Cy-Hawk Stakes and previously captured the Grade 2 Heritage Place Oaks. As a 2-year-old, she won the Hawkeye Futurity and finished fourth in the Grade 3 Black Gold Fillies Futurity, where she competed against Amarillis.
With eight career victories and earnings totaling $316,186, Chew Bac Cah brings one of the strongest records into the inaugural Oaks trials.
The Iowa homebred races for Lunderborg, LLC. She is a daughter of Apollitical Jess, out of the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Paint Or More. Jason L. Olmstead trains the filly, who will leave from post five with regular rider Ramiro H. Garcia aboard.
Flying Policy 123, the 2-1 morning-line favorite, leads the final trial in race eight. The accomplished filly finished third behind Chew Bac Cah in the Grade 2 Heritage Place Oaks earlier this season.
Last year, Flying Policy 123 finished second to Amarillis in the Grade 3 Black Gold Fillies Futurity. She also finished third in the Grade 2 Mystery Futurity and qualified for the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity. The three-time winner has earned $236,085 for owner Clay Seal.
Flying Policy 123 is a daughter of Flying Cowboy 123, out of the Tres Seis mare BP Tres Seis, and was bred in Oklahoma by the late Bill Price. Justin Joiner trains the filly, who will break from post six with jockey Mario Delgado aboard.
The inaugural Will Rogers Oaks gives sophomore fillies a chance to compete within their division, and its first set of trials has brought together an accomplished group. Amarillis, Chew Bac Cah and Flying Policy 123 have already met in major stakes company, adding another chapter to their rivalry as they pursue a spot in the October 19 final.
With three competitive Oaks trials, the Henry Bowlan Memorial Stakes, and the Grade 1 Pot O Gold Futurity completing the card, Monday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs promises an exciting showcase of Quarter Horse, Paint, and Appaloosa racing.
