San Lorenzo Bossman Headlines Competitive Field In $40,000 Opelousas Stakes At Evangeline Downs

Evangeline Downs is preparing for an exciting Saturday evening of Quarter Horse racing, highlighted by a seven-race card featuring the Restricted Grade 3 $40,000 Opelousas Stakes. First post is set for 5:35 p.m., with the opening race a 870-yard contest around the turn.

The evening's featured event will take center stage in race six, bringing together six talented Louisiana-bred runners, 3-year-olds and older, to compete over 400 yards. The Restricted Grade 3 $40,000 Opelousas Stakes is scheduled for approximately 7:40 p.m., with a competitive field aiming to add another stakes victory to their records.

San Lorenzo Bossman leads the field as the 8-5 morning-line favorite. The talented 3-year-old colt enters the contest after a determined allowance victory, overcoming a bump at the break and rallying late to prevail by a neck. The performance demonstrated his determination and provided momentum heading into Saturday's stakes challenge.

Earlier this season, San Lorenzo Bossman finished second in the Grade 3 Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby. His performances have increased his career earnings to $123,824 for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr., who bought the colt for $75,000 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale.

Bred in Louisiana by Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., San Lorenzo Bossman is by Apollitical Blood and out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Runawa Renee. Trainer Ramiro Aboytes-Suarez will saddle the colt from post five, with jockey Leonardo Rodriguez aboard.

Standing in his way is the experienced One Sweet Boss, who enters as the 5-2 second choice on the morning line. The 8-year-old gelding brings an accomplished stakes record to the contest and is the most seasoned competitor in the field. A multiple graded stakes winner with career earnings of $258,855, One Sweet Boss has shown consistency this season, finishing among the top contenders in all but one of his starts.

The Louisiana homebred gelding races for Flying K Ranch, LLC. He is by One Sweet Jess and out of the Rakin in the Cash mare Starlight Bess. Trainer Phillip Calais, Jr., will prepare the veteran runner from post three, with jockey Eddi E. Martinez named to ride.

Saturday's Opelousas Stakes features an intriguing matchup between rising talent and proven experience. San Lorenzo Bossman will aim to carry his winning momentum into a significant stakes victory, while One Sweet Boss brings the experience and accomplishments of a seasoned graded stakes competitor.

With six Louisiana-bred contenders set to race 400 yards, the Restricted Grade 3 $40,000 Opelousas Stakes promises an exciting showdown as the field competes for stakes honors under the Saturday evening lights at Evangeline Downs.
