Paint & Appaloosa Juveniles Take Center Stage Thursday At Lone Star Park

Paint and Appaloosa juveniles will step into the spotlight Thursday afternoon at Lone Star Park, where a competitive field of eight lines up for the $15,000 TPHBA I’m Single Juvenile Stakes.

Thursday’s eight-race card gets underway with a 3:05 p.m. first post, and the featured event is scheduled as race three at approximately 3:57 p.m. The eight 2-year-olds will dash 330 yards in a race restricted to APHA- or ApHC-registered entrants. Dual-registered individuals are ineligible.

Dw Showin D Off, the 2-1 morning-line favorite for trainer Dee Keener, will lead the field. The accomplished 2-year-old colt has already qualified for three major futurities this season, including the Grade 1 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park, the Grade 1 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity, and the Grade 1 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Fair Meadows.

He added his first major stakes victory in the Grade 2 $25,000 Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes and has finished on the board in five of seven career starts, earning $59,030.

The son of Uncle D is out of the SF Royal Quick Flash mare Shez Showin Off. An Oklahoma homebred for owner Danny J. Watkins, Dw Showin D Off will break from post two, with jockey Roman Cruz aboard.

Catalina Scratch enters as the 5-2 second choice on the morning line, following a promising start to her young career. The 2-year-old filly has made just two starts, finishing fourth in her debut futurity trial and returning with a victory in the $10,800 TPHBA Maiden Juvenile earlier this meet at Lone Star Park.

Despite being bumped, Catalina Scratch fought off her rivals and held on by three-quarters of a length to claim her first career victory.

The daughter of Cat Scratch Dash is out of the Class King mare Eyes Truley and was bred in Texas by Orlando Gonzalez. Racing for owner Melissa L. Dehoyos, she is trained by Oscar Nunez and will break from post four under jockey Olivin J. Martinez.

With an accomplished stakes winner facing a promising recent Lone Star Park winner and six other juveniles seeking to make their mark, the $15,000 TPHBA I’m Single Juvenile Stakes promises an exciting 330-yard showdown as Thursday racing gets underway at Lone Star Park.
