Futurity Doubleheader Headlines $623,550 Stakes-Packed Saturday At Sweetwater Downs

Saturday afternoon at Sweetwater Downs promises a major day for juvenile Quarter Horse racing, featuring an 11-race program highlighted by a pair of lucrative futurity finals and two $25,000 consolation stakes. First post is set for 1:00 p.m.

Headlining the afternoon are the $300,000 Sweetwater Downs QH Futurity and the $273,550 WABRA Wyoming Bred QH Futurity. The stakes-packed program gains depth with the $25,000 Sweetwater Downs Futurity Consolation and the $25,000 WABRA Futurity Consolation.

The $300,000 Sweetwater Downs QH Futurity will take center stage in race ten at approximately 5:12 p.m. Nine juveniles are expected to line up for the 350-yard final after Kash Kowboyy scratched from the ten qualifiers who advanced from the September 11 trial heats.

Ojd Tempt Me Not leads the field as the 3-1 morning-line favorite. The talented gelding has put together an impressive juvenile campaign, winning five of his six starts and finishing second in his only other appearance. His victories include the Idaho Cup Futurity and the Wyoming Governor’s Cup Futurity, which have pushed his career earnings to $161,324.

The Idaho-bred races for Gomez, Karla, and Oscar Jaime Diaz. A son of Tempting Dash, Ojd Tempt Me Not is out of the Favorite Cartel mare Ojd One Favorite Jj. Part-owner Oscar Jaime Diaz trains the gelding, who will break from the inside rail in post one with jockey Nestor Duran aboard as he looks to add another major futurity title to his growing résumé.

Earlier on the card, Wyoming-bred juveniles will command the spotlight in race eight, the $273,550 WABRA Wyoming Bred QH Futurity. Ten qualifiers from the September 13 trial heats will return to race 330 yards at approximately 4:16 p.m.

Mysterious Blues enters the final as the 3-1 morning-line favorite after delivering the strongest performance of her young career in the trials. The filly broke sharply, took command, and never looked back, winning by a length in a gate-to-wire victory and posting the fastest qualifying time.

Mysterious Blues has made five career starts, earning two victories and two runner-up finishes, with earnings totaling $15,920 for owner Leeanne A. Christensen.

Bred in Wyoming by Gary Laramie, Mysterious Blues is by Mister Moody Blue and out of the Bridlewood mare Unbridled Mystery. Ryan F. Christensen trains the filly, who will break from post nine with jockey Victor F. Dominguez aboard for the first time.

The stakes action will begin earlier in the afternoon with the $25,000 Wyoming Bred WABRA Futurity Consolation, with the field will race in recognition of Gerald F. “Whitey” Kaul.

Race nine will keep the stakes action rolling with the $25,000 Sweetwater Downs Futurity Consolation, featuring another group of promising juveniles and a field racing in recognition of Ron and Lori Moosman.

With more than $623,000 on the line across four stakes races and some of the region’s most promising young Quarter Horses ready to settle it on the racetrack, Saturday afternoon at Sweetwater Downs promises a showcase of rising talent and high-stakes racing from start to finish.
