LOS ALAMITOS, CA–APRIL 30, 2025–Parsons Ranch’s Powerful Wise Lady and Gentry Farms’ Beach Walk, the second and third place finishers, respectively, in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Oaks held earlier this year, face off again in the $22,500 La Pacifica Handicap for sophomore fillies on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Martin Arriaga, Beach Walk was the fastest qualifier to the Oaks, winning her trial by a half-length for trainer Juan Aleman. As a juvenile, she won her trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity after also running second in her trial to the Golden State Million Futurity.

The Oaks was her first Grade 1 final and she performed admirably, recovering from some bumping at the start to make a big late run on the way to running third in the final. Arriaga gets the call again from post number three.

Meanwhile, Powerful Wise Lady ran lights out from the outside post, finishing second to winner Shaken Goin On. Trained by Paul Jones and ridden by Henry Reynoso Lopez, the Power Jam filly also qualified to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby and she ran a solid fifth in this open derby. Powerful Wise Lady will be going after her first win of 2025 and second victory in her career. She’ll start from post five.

There are four other competitors in the La Pacifica including two other Oaks finalists. Reliance Ranches’ Hott Temptation, who was sixth in the Oaks was then third against older mares in the Virginia Hyland in her last start on April 12, and she will now be part of the La Pacifica.

Ed Allred’s Call Her Perfect also raced in the Oaks and has been in the money in six of her eight career starts.

The field will be completed by Valentin Zamudio’s Really A Classic, who was an allowance winner in her last outing, and the three-time career winner Fyrestorm.
