SELMA, TX–AUGUST 17, 2024—On Saturday at Retama Park, multiple stakes winner Wl Van Halen raced to a neck win over Wl You Aint No Cowboy in the $23,000 Colors Of The Wind Pant & Appaloosa Maturity.

Ridden by jockey Nestor Duran, Wl Van Halen completed the 350 yards in 18.065 seconds, equaling an 85-speed index into a 10 mph crosswind.

Trainer Gilberto Gonzalez saddled the son Mhm Hotwire to his 10th career win in 20 starts for owner Guerras Racing Stables. The $9,430 winners' purse boosted the gelding's earnings to $151,578.

Charles R. Leggett bred Wl Van Halen in Oklahoma from the Sf Royal Quick Dash mare Cl Trap Queen.

Also bred in Oklahoma by Leggett, runner-up Wl You Aint No Cowboy earned $3,910 for finishing second. Zachery Rios trains the Pained Turnpike gelding for Wade and Susan Leggett. Oscar Andrade, Jr. had the riding call on the 4-year-old from Texas Fourwinds by Texas Hero. The stakes winner has banked $67,944.

Frenchy, a Texas-bred son of Crm Livewire, finished a nose back in the blanket finish to earn $2,530 for third. Arnold Lewis trains Frenchy for owner-breeders Scott and Lindsey Pruett. Ponce Aguilar rode the gelding out Crp Coco by This Snow Is Royal.

V Golden Game, Vp Rocket Ryon, Sw Ares, Vp Gravel Pit Dancer, Wl Trapwire, and Kas Pecosa completed the field.
