White Collar Clocks Fastest Time To The TQHA Sires' Cup Derby With A Driving Finish For The Wire
SELMA, TX–AUGUST 3, 2024–26 three-year-olds competed in three trials Saturday evening for a spot in the $105,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Derby finals at Retama Park, which will be run on August 17, 2024.
White Collar broke his maiden in the last out of his freshman campaign and returned in 2024 to win his first start of the season. He hadn't won again until this evening, where he crushed trial #2 with a two-length victory over Gjr Rooster in :20.076 seconds and set the time to beat.
Ridden by Eleazar Hernandez, the son of One Famous Eagle clocked a 92 speed index while running into an eight mph headwind. White Collar's 400-yard victory paid $5.00 to win on 7/5 odds.
The $6,000 winner's share of the trial purse increased his bankroll to $24,304. The win improved his record to 3-2-0 from nine starts. Last month, he placed sixth in the Firecracker Derby [G3] at Delta Downs.
Breeder Dr. Steve Burns of California sold White Collar for $90,000 in the 2022 Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Trainer Leonel Hernandez trains the sorrel gelding out of You Caught My Eye by Favorite Cartel for owner Hector Menchaca.
Piloted by Ricardo Ayala, the second fastest qualifier, Action Required, won the first trial heat of the night by a length in :20.196 seconds for an 89 speed index. Trainer Raul Galvan saddled the son of Kvn Corona for owner Rancho El Huajillo LLC, which paid $25,000 for him in the 2022 TQHA Yearling Sale.
Action Required has lit the board seven of ten starts with three wins and $36,080 in earnings. Jerry Chapman bred the gray gelding in Texas out of Perriwinkle by Mr Jess Perry.
