Multiple graded stakes winner V Golden Game added another stakes victory to his record Saturday night, capturing the $16,250 Olympia Joe Stakes at Lone Star Park. The 5-year-old gelding overcame contact at the start before drawing clear to win by a half-length, covering 400 yards in :20.167 and earning an 81 speed index over a fast racing surface.
Ridden by Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. for trainer Oscar Nunez, V Golden Game was sent off as the 2-1 favorite in the seven-horse field. After racing just off the early pace, he took command and held off a late-running I Do Not Recall to collect the $7,881 winner's share for owner Jorge L. Vega.
Bred in Oklahoma by Aubrey L. Garcia, the brown gelding is a son of Crm Livewire out of Game Hi, by Game Patriot. The victory marked his seventh career win from 29 starts and increased his lifetime earnings to $142,087. The multiple graded stakes winner has also recorded five seconds and six thirds during his career.
I Do Not Recall rallied late to finish second, a half-length behind the winner, earning $2,762 for owner Damika Burton. The 3-year-old gelding, trained by Richard G. Washington and ridden by Francisco Calderon, is a son of Chilitos out of Fly Lil Curl, by Spit Curl Jess.
Bred by Douglas McMullen, I Do Not Recall has now earned $32,940 from seven career starts, with three seconds and one third. The multiple stakes-placed gelding continues to seek his first career victory.
Chill Chill completed the trifecta, finishing another half-length behind the runner-up to collect $1,788 for owner Isaac Ortiz. The 3-year-old filly broke inward and encountered contact before racing evenly to secure third under jockey Ali Rivera for trainer Harvey Baeza.
Also sired by Chilitos, Chill Chill is out of Train 214, a daughter of Freighttrain B. Bred by Texas Drywall Special Ties, the stakes-placed filly has compiled a record of one win, one second, and three thirds from six starts, with lifetime earnings increasing to $25,548.
The second- and third-place finishers gave Chilitos a strong showing in the Olympia Joe Stakes, with two of his 3-year-old offspring completing the top three.
Completing the field were Vp Dash for Texas, fourth, followed by Cholulaa and La Cholula, who finished in a dead heat for fifth, and Just an Eagle, seventh. Jackson Davis 747 was scratched.
The Olympia Joe Stakes was contested at 400 yards for Paints and Appaloosas 3 years old and older, with a purse of $16,250.
