Trainer Perez Qualifies Two Fastest Times To Miss Roxie Little Futurity Wth Wrs Mynameisrip On Top
SHELBYVILLE, IND–OCTOBER 5, 2024–From six trials with 51 state-bred two-year-olds, trainer Natasha Perez qualified four of them to the $235,600 Miss Roxie Little Futurity [RG3] on Saturday at Horseshoe Indianapolis, including the two fastest, Wrs Mynameisrip and Escondido Gold.
With jockey Diego Villamil Bocanegra in the irons, Wrs Mynameisrip set the time to beat in 17.937 seconds in the first trial with a wire-to-wire 3/4-length victory over Beach First. The son of Tarzanito clocked an 87-speed index against a nine mph headwind, and the slight upset paid $11.60 to win on 9-2 odds.
Wrs Mynameisrip broke his maiden this spring at Sandy Ridge at The Red Mile and added another win to his credentials in the prep for the Miss Roxie Little Futurity Trials. He was a finalist in the Jaguar Rocket Futurity in July.
Today's victory marked the third in Wrs Mynameisrip's career from six starts, and the $8,250 payday boosted his earnings to $40,372. Williams Racing Stables owns and bred Wrs Mynameisrip iout of the Fast Prize Jordan mare Wrs Hava Cricket.
"She (Wrs Hava Cricket) is a great big mare," noted Randy Williams. "She won out here at 440 by open lengths but just couldn’t do much shorter than that. But she has some cracker jack babies at home. We have a weanling full brother to ‘Rip’ at home. We named him Wrs Shadow Dancer. We have cameras in the stalls and can watch from our house. When he was just a few days old, his shadow would show up on the wall, and he would try his best to dodge it, like a cuttin’ horse. If racing doesn’t work out for him, maybe he can be a cuttin’ horse."
Wrs Mynameisrip is special in a lot of ways to the Williams. Besides representing one of the hottest bloodlines in their operation in recent years, Gwen took a liking to the feisty colt from the start and picked out his name.
"I don’t name a lot of them, but I named him," added Gwen. "He was sassy when he was little. We are ‘Yellowstone’ fans, so the name ‘Rip’ just fit him."
The only other horse to dip below the 18 second time barrier in the Miss Roxie Little Futurity Trials was another horse trained by Perez. Escondido Gold, winner of the last trial, scored his win in 17.971 seconds, clocking an 86 speed index with similar tactics. The 350-yard effort paid $14.40 to win on 6-1 odds.
Villamil Bocanegra experienced a paddock incident before Race 3 and was taken off the rest of his mounts for the day. Cristian Esqueda picked up two of his horses for Perez and scored two wins to land in the top 10, including the assignment aboard Escondido Gold.
Escondido Gold has four wins from six starts at Horseshoe Indianapolis and $43,461 in earnings for owner BFD Farms. He was a finalist in the QHRAI SSA Futurity [G3] and Gordon Mobley Futurity from his other two starts. Thomas Wylie bred the sorrel gelding out of Marthas Jess Gold by Gold Medal Jess.
Trainers Claudio Barraza and Tim Eggleston conditioned two finalists each to the Futurity finals. Escondido Beach was the sire of four qualifiers. Eos A Political Win was the only other stallion with multiple qualifiers.
