Tempting Scout Tops Grade 1 All American QH Oaks Qualifiers
ALBUQUERQUE, NM–AUGUST 11, 2024–Tempting Scout got her first win the season Sunday while posting the fastest qualifying time for the $626,135 Grade 1 All American QH Oaks during trials contested at the Downs at Albuquerque.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from the four 440-yard trial races will return to The Downs on Monday, September 2, to vie for the winner's share of the purse valued at $292,976.
Under mild urging from champion jockey Francisco Calderon, Tempting Scout completed the 440 yards in 21.046 seconds, a 102-speed index with a 5 mph tailwind.
"She finished strong," jockey Calderon said. "She was well-rested and did it very easy."
Trainer Heath Taylor, who qualified four fillies to this year's Oaks, conditions the Grade 2-placed daughter of champion sire Tempting Dash for owner Valeriano Racing Stables LLC. Paragon Farms LLC bred Tempting Scout in Texas from the Apollitical Jess mare Apollitical Scout.
She has banked $132,367 off an (8) 4-2-1 record. She also won the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity at 2 and third in the Heritage Place Oaks(G2) last June.
Taylor also qualified as the third-fastest Running To The Moon for Rancho El Cabresto, Inc., and the eighth-fastest Amore For A Reason for Silver Racing Farm LLC.
Wesley T. Giles was the only other trainer with multiple finalists. He got the seventh-fastest KJ Flying Cowgirl, the ninth-fastest Miss Hi Tide, and the tenth-fastest qualifier Macdara.

Racing continues next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Downs of Albuquerque, with quarter horse and thoroughbred racing starting at 12:30 p.m. daily. Meanwhile, the New Mexico-bred Horse Sale will be held at the Ruidoso Downs All American Sales Pavilion starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
