Tempting Dash Dominates $205,000 Sires' Cup Futurity Trials, Sires Four Finalists
SELMA, TX–AUGUST 2, 2024—Champion sire Tempting Dash sired four of the seven trial winners, and all four qualified for the $205,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity(RG2) Friday night at Retama Park.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Retama Park on Saturday, August 17, to vie for a winner's purse valued at $82,000, going a distance of 350 yards.
In addition to paying record purse money to the Sires' Cup Futurity qualifiers, TQHA will also payout $24,940 in 2024 Sires' Cup Futurity Stallion Awards.
Grade 2-placed Machiavelli defeated Who Wants Too Fancy by ahead in the seventh trial to get the fastest qualifying time of 17.899 seconds, an 89-speed index into a 2 mph headwind.
Racing for owner CH Horse Racing, LLC and trainer Juan Diaz, Jr., the son of Tempting Dash was making his first start since finishing third in the Grade 2 $621,810 Sam Houston Futurity on June 15.
Alipio Brugos bred the $51,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate in California from the Apollitical Jess mare Chalala Jess. Machiavelli has won two of four starts and earned $77,521.
Who Wants Too Fancy held on to the second-fastest clocking of 17.917, also an 89 speed index. Winless in three starts, the son of Mr Fancy B races for owner-breeder Guerras Racing Stables and is trained by Gilberto Gonzalez. The Texas-bred gelding is out of Who Wants To Be You by Coronas Leaving You.
Tempting Dash's other trial winners were the 4th fastest qualifier, Poww Poww, racing for owner Rachuan Suarez; the 5th fastest, Tempting Grace, racing for owner-breeder Francisco Javier Garza; and the 7th fastest Twinkly, racing for owner JJS Custom Built Homes.
The first-crop sire, Chilitos, was the only other sire with multiple qualifiers, getting the third fastest Relentless Politics and the tenth fastest Chiles.
