Storms Livewire Best In Green County Stakes

CLAREMORE, OK–SEPTEMBER 10, 2024–Storms Livewire got his first career stakes win today when he defeated Turnpike Judy by a nose in the $15,712 Grade 3 Green County Stakes for 3-year-old and up Paints and Appaloosas at Will Rogers Downs.

A late surge under jockey Javier Hernandez-Gallardo boosted Storms Livewire to victory, completing the 350 yards in 17.659 seconds, a 93-speed index into a 7 mph crosswind.

Trainer Michelle Hurdle saddled the Crm Livewire gelding to his second win 14 starts for owner Edith Gutierrez Velasco. Darling Farms bred Storms Livewire from the Seattle Fitz (TB) mare Storm's Promise (TB). The $9,372 winner's purse bumped the gelding's earnings to $52,566.

Runner-up Turnpikes Judy earned $3,124 for finishing second. Trainer Jesus Ruiz named jockey Roman Cruz to ride the Barracuda mare for owners Shari Burger and Vickie McBee. Nolan Pevehouse bred the $123,489 earner from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Wagon On Turnpike.

Wire Tap and jockey Luis Martinez finished a nose back in the blanket finish to earn $1,630 for third. Matt Whitekiller conditions the Crm Livewire gelding for owner-breeders Dan and Kay Jones. Bred from the Second Painted Sign mare Lindys Sign, he has earned $56,529 in 14 starts.

Queen For Cash, Pevs Wire To Wire, Livewires Turnpike and Emerald Coast completed the field.
