Stakes Winner Jazzing Dynasty Sets Top Mark In Elko Quarter Horse Derby Trials

ELKO, NV–AUGUST 23, 2024–Stakes winner Jazzing Dynasty posted the fastest qualifying time for the Elko QH Derby from two trials races conducted this afternoon at the Elk County Fairground.

The ten fastest qualifiers will return on Monday, September 2, to vie for the winner's share of a $26,000-est. purse going a distance of 400 yards.

Jazzing Dynasty broke best under jockey Jose Figueroa, then easily on by one length while stopping the timer in 19.934 seconds, a 96-speed index with an 8 mph tailwind. The brown filly defeated Sketchy Politics by one length in the last two trials to set the fastest time.

Owner-trainer Wes Kellett saddled Jazzing Dynasty to her fifth career win in 13 starts.

Ross Herrick bred the daughter of multiple stakes sire Jr Dynasty Mountain in Utah from the Jazzing Hi mare Jazzing Jenna. Winner of the Weber Downs Fillies Derby and runner-up in the Gary Waite Maiden Stakes, Jazzing Dynasty has earned $58,419.

Haulin Oatz drew clear under jockey Jose Figueroa to win the first trial by 1-1/4 lengths in the second fastest clocking of 19.957, a 95-speed index with a 10 mph tailwind. Trainer Brent Bowman saddled the daughter of Indigo James to her second win in 11 career starts for owner Hemsley Ranch.

Leeanne Christensen bred Haulin Oatz in Utah from the Special Leader mare Ac Special Addition. A finalist in the Beehive Juvenile last season, the filly has earned $7,650.
