Stablemate Out Of The Way Bests Leading Money Earner In G1 Downs at Albuquerque Fall QH Championship
ALBUQUERQUE, NM–OCTOBER 5, 2024–Out Of The Way kicked clear, then held off his stablemate, all-time leading money earner Kj Desparado, to win the $350,000 Downs at Albuquerque Fall QH Championship(G1) on Saturday night.
Ridden by jockey Christian Cardenas, Out Of The Way broke alertly to win by one length while completing the 440 yards in 20.850 seconds, equaling a 106-speed index with an 8 mph tailwind.
Trainer Wesley Giles saddled the son of champion sire First Moonflash to his fifth career win for owners Leslie and Pierre Amestoy, Jr. and Roger Beasley.
The 4-year-old colt, who has been knocking at the door all year, won the John Andreini Memorial Stakes at Ruidoso last May, followed that with a second in the Grade 2 Mr Jet Moore and third in the Grade 1 All-American Gold Cup, both contested at The Downs.
Bred in California by Silver Racing Farm LLC, from the Corona Cartel mare Coronas Fast Honey, Out Of My Way earned $200,100 for his Championship win to nearly triple his earnings to $310,972.
Leading money earner Kj Desparado broke a step show under jockey Adian Ramos and chased gallantly to earn $70,000 for second place. Giles trains the former All American Futurity(G1) winner for owner-breeders John and Wanda Lee and Ruben Mares. The son of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Tres Seis mare Tres Veses has compiled a (26) 16-5-0 record and earned $3,178,099.
Texas-bred Fdd Cloud finished half-a-length back to earn $35,000 for third. Trainer Omar Vargas named jockey Jesus Olivas to ride the graded stakes winning son of multiple stakes sire FDD Going Grand for owner Aurelio Juarez. Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm bred the 4-year-old gelding from the Jess Elie mare A Noble Jess Elie. He has earned $294,593 in 18 career starts.
