Ss Pineapple Lasts In CM Distance Stakes #1 at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino Friday.

EDMONTON, ALB—AUGUST 2, 2024—Multiple stakes winner Ss Pineapple defended his title by winning the $15,402(US) CM Distance Stakes #1 for the second consecutive year at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino on Friday.

Under jockey Blandford Stewart Ss Pineapple led wire-to-wire while holding off post-time favorite Rocky League by a head as they hit the wire. The 5-year-old son of Cuivre River completed the 870-yard course in 46.428 seconds, equaling an 85-speed index with a 15 mph tailwind.

Trainer Carl Perry saddled the palomino gelding to his fifth career win in 23 starts for owner-breeder Sazwan Speed Horses. Bred from the Birdzilla (TB) mare Zillas Amour, Ss Pineapple used the $8,163(US) winner's purse to bring his earnings total to $45,338.

Runner-up Rocky League races for owner-trainer Kevin Oberholtzer and was ridden by Martin Ortiz. Ralph Denard bred the stakes-winning Ivory League gelding in Alberta from the Tres Seis mare Rocky Mountain Lady. He picked up $4,005(US) for the effort.

Grade 3 stakes winner Northfork Boss finished 2-1/2 lengths back to earn $2,520(US) for third. Trainer Buckey A. Stockwell conditions the 4-year-old Jd Wagon Boss gelding for himself, Glenn Willis, and Delton Gehring. Willis bred the $83,139 earner from the Spanish Boot mare Northfork Babe.

Timbers Moon and First Olaf completed the field.
