AJAX, ONT–JULY 17, 2024–Snow Moose defeats heavy favorite Had To Be Ivory by a length in the $29,308 (US) Ontario Bred Maturity at Ajax Downs on Wednesday.

Jockey J. Botello piloted Snow Moose to his 400-yard victory in :19.806 seconds, clocking a 102 speed index. The son of Separate Interest led the field from wire to wire, and the slight upset paid $12.00 to win at 3/1 odds.

Trained by Jason Pascoe, Snow Moose has lit the board 12 of 16 starts with seven career wins. The $13,026 winner's share of the Maturity purse increased the four-year-old's total earnings to over $100,000. His other top stakes victories include the Ontario Bred Derby, QROOI Open Derby, and Alex Picov Memorial Futurity.

Milena Kwiecien bred and owns Snow Moose out of Favorite Pear by Favorite Cartel.

Last year's defending champion, Had To Be Ivory, trailed Snow Moose, placing second under the guidance of Josh Scott. The Ontario-bred superstar has 27 wins from 36 starts, with 18 stakes victories and $349,743 in the bank. The son of Ivory James has won the Ontario Bred Maturity the past four of five years.

Bryn Robertson conditions Had To Be Ivory for owners/breeders Carol and Jaime Robertson. The nine-year-old gelding is out of Had To Be Fandango by Hadtobenuts.

Hanover Hill Theresa was ridden to her third-place finish by jockey Christian Benitez. The stakes-winning daughter of Sugarman Perry has seven with $92,057 in earnings.

James Bogar owns and trains the seven-year-old mare out of Ehoria by Demaloot Demashoot. Picov Cattle Co. bred her.

One Fabulous Wave, Sour Candy and First Cold Wave round out the order of finish.
