Smokin Lil Wagon Scores Second Stakes Victory This Season in John and Elouise Hamilton Memorial
BLACKFOOT, ID–SEPTEMBER 2, 2024–Smokin Lil Wagon broke best from the three-hole and kept his marginal lead to the wire in the $6,000 John and Elouise Hamilton Memorial on Monday at Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds.
Jockey Jesus Flores piloted Smokin Lil Wagon a one and 1/4-length victory over Streakin Wes in 15.621 seconds, clocking a 95 speed index. The post-time favorite's 300-yard effort paid $2.80 to win.
Streakin Wes, with Jose Borbonio in the irons, placed second ¾-lengths over M E Easy Jet This and rider Rodolfo Arvizu. Festus Hagen, ridden by Carlos Banda, completed the four-horse field.
Trainer Glen Jamison owns Smokin Lil Wagon in partnership with Jill Jamison. The four-year-old daughter of Lil Kool Wagon improved her race record to 6-3-2 from 16 starts, and the $3,300 winner's share increased her earnings to $23,585.
Smokin Lil Wagon has won the last five of six starts, including the Jack Funk Sprint Stakes last month at Cassia County Fair and the Oneida County Mixed Breed Derby last year. John McBride bred the bay filly in Idaho out of Smokn Mirrors by Jumpn.
Trainer Edgar Juarez saddled runner-up Streakin Wes for owner-breeder Ramiro Saldana. The four-year-old son of Panama Wes has earned $25,282 from 23 starts. The three-time winner is out of Streakin Zestfully by Streakin Sixes.
Jarrett Mills trains third place finisher M E Easy Jet This for owners-breeders Dave Merritt and Kim Newman. The three-time winning daughter of Ec Jet One has earned $15,930 from 14 starts. The three-year-old filly is out of Ettago This by Favorite Cartel.
