Smokin Lil Wagon Gets Gate-To-Wire Victory in the Jack Funk Sprint Stakes
BURLEY, ID–AUGUST 16, 2024–Smokin Lil Wagon flew from the gate and led the $5,900 Jack Funk Sprint Stakes (not black type) from wire-o-wire for a 3/4-length victory on Friday at Cassia County Fair.
Jockey Jesus Flores piloted Smokin Lil Wagon to the wire in 13.154 seconds, assisted by a five mph tailwind, and clocked a 103-speed index. The 250-yard winning effort paid $5.60 on 4-5 odds.
Streakin Wes, ridden by Jesus Virgen, followed at the wire for second, and M E Ettago Relent, guided by Eric Ayala, came in third.
Trainer Glen Jamison owns Smokin Lil Wagon in partnership with Jill Jamison. The daughter of Lil Kool Wagon has lit the board ten of 15 starts with five career wins and won the last four of five starts, including the Oneida County Mixed Breed Derby last year.
The $3,540 payday increased the four-year-old filly's earnings to $20,285. John McBride bred Smokin Lil Wagon in Idaho out of Smokn Mirrors by Jumpn.
Trainer Edgar Juarez conditioned runner-up Streakin Wes for owner-breeder Ramiro Saldana. The four-year-old Idaho-bred colt has three career wins with $22,857 in the bank, including last year's Gary & Sherilyn Blattner Memorial Derby. The son of Panama Wes is out of Streakin Zestfully by Streakin Sixes.
Post-time favorite M E Ettago Relent is bred and owned by Dave Merritt and Kim Newman in Idaho. Trained by Jarrett Mills, the multiple stakes-winning daughter of Hes Relentless has four wins and $40,414 in earnings. She is out of the Favorite Cartel mare Ettago This.
Carolo Rossi, Riddle, and Momys Little Corona complete the order of finish.
