Sizzles Boss Gets Top Mark In $59,440 Alberta Bred Futurity [RG3] Trials
ROCKY VIEW–OCTOBER 5, 2024–Two trials were held on Saturday at Century Downs for the $59,440 Alberta Bred Futurity [RG3]. Six of the seven horses from trial one made it back to the finals, including the top three fastest times who crossed the wire in a three-way photo finish.
Sizzles Boss, ridden by O. Hernandez, quickly took charge of the 350-yard race at first call and led the track to the wire, winning by a neck over Rjs Boss and jockey D. Benitez. Rjs Boss crossed the wire in second, only a head ahead of Flash Me A Corona, piloted by J. Botello.
Sizzles Boss set the time to beat in 17.859 seconds with an 88-speed index, while Rjs Boss clocked the second-best time in 17.930 seconds. Flash Me A Corona followed for the third fastest time in 17.957 seconds.
The $4,770 winner's share of the trial purse increased Sizzles Boss's earnings to $26,703. The brown gelding has three wins from five starts, including the Sales Stakes Futurity at Century Mile in June. He placed fourth in the Century Mile Juvenile Challenge Stakes in July.
Sizzles Boss is owned by Cinch Up Syndicate, who purchased him for $11,500 in last year's AHQRA Yearling Mixed Sale. Glenn Wills bred the brown gelding out of Northfork Sizzle by Sizzlin Red Corona.
Breeder Glenn Wills and partner Copithorne also sold Rjs Boss in last year's AQHRA Yearling Mixed sale for $30,000 to his owner, Colton Wills. The brown colt is out of Rj Bitterroot Babe by El Mistral.
Rjs Boss has one win and four seconds from seven starts with $22,298 in the bank, including a second-place finish in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity and fifth in the Canada Cup Futurity [G3].
JD Boss Wagon is the sire of the top two qualifiers, Sizzles Boss and Rjs Boss, as well as the ninth fastest qualifier, Hold On Boss.
Three finalists came from the second trial, including fourth fastest Ima Hott Version, who won her trial heat from gate-to-wire over O La Dee Da. The daughter of Winners Version has lit the board five of six starts with two wins and $28,791 in earnings.
Trainer Misael Moreno saddled Ima Hott Version for owners Laci Brunelle and Darby Danard. Ralph Danard bred the chestnut fill out of Im Hott Ur Nott by Tres Seis.
