Silvers Creek Scores Upset Victory in $46,000 Elko Intermountain Futurity

Silvers Creek broke sharply and held off Wacky Wednesday by a neck Monday to score a 12-1 upset in the $46,000 Elko Intermountain Futurity Finals at the Elko County Fair.

With Jayden R. Ironeyes aboard, Silvers Creek completed the 350 yards in :17.553, earning a 103 speed index over a fast racing surface. The 2-year-old filly took command shortly after the start and maintained her advantage to the wire. A 3 mph tailwind accompanied the race.

The victory was worth $18,400 for owners and breeders Larry and Joyce Mower. Joe Hadley trains the Utah-bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Conn Creek from the Vital Sign mare Sheza Signature.

Silvers Creek entered Monday's final with two wins and a second from four starts and earnings of $9,731. With the futurity victory added, she has now won three of five career starts and earned $28,131. She was also a finalist in the Beehive Futurity.

Wacky Wednesday chased the winner throughout and finished a neck back in second for owner Luis A. Gonzalez and trainer Abelardo Gonzalez. Oscar Villa rode the colt, who earned $9,200 for the runner-up effort.

Bred by LG Racing LLC, Wacky Wednesday is a son of champion sire Apollitical Blood from the Sir Runaway Dash mare Runaway Witch. The consistent colt has won the Oneida County QH Futurity and finished second in both the Elko Intermountain Futurity and Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity. He was also third in the Pocatello Futurity.

Hot Britches finished another length behind Wacky Wednesday in third, earning $4,600 for owner Eduardo Robles. Luis A. Collazo rode the Ramiro Fregoso trainee.

Edward J. and Von Zae McNelis bred Hot Britches, a daughter of first-crop sire In Hott Pursuit from Rumpled Britches, by Royaltys Choice. Her record stands at three wins and one third from seven starts with earnings of $12,022. In addition to her third-place finish in the Elko Intermountain Futurity, she was a finalist in the Idaho Cup Futurity.

Silvers Creek returned $27.20 to win as the 12.60-1 fourth choice in the field.

Completing the field were Cartels Panhandle, Carters Corona, Louisianas Best, Five Bar Dlt, Delta Flight 3849, Ashotatmeleavinyou and Talk to Papa 2.
