She My Dulce Girl Prevails In Canadian Quarter Horse Cup Derby

She My Dulce Girl battled her way to the front and held off a late-running The Greek Freek by a half-length Saturday to win the $27,023(US) Canadian Quarter Horse Cup Derby at Century Mile.

Ridden by Daniel Tavares for trainer Misael Moreno, She My Dulce Girl completed the 400 yards in :20.132, earning a 97 speed index over a fast racing surface. The race was contested with a 20 mph tailwind.

The 3-year-old daughter of last year's leading first-crop sire Dulce Sin Tacha broke fifth but quickly put herself into contention before taking command. She drifted late but kept to her task to secure the victory and the $12,191(US) winner's share of the purse.

Ralph E. Danard owns She My Dulce Girl, a black Alberta-bred filly produced from the Jet Black Patriot mare Cash Cartel Patriot. Tami Mai bred the winner.

Saturday's victory improved She My Dulce Girl's career record to five wins, one second and two thirds from nine starts with earnings of $39,188. Her stakes record now includes the Canadian Quarter Horse Cup Derby victory and a third-place finish in the All Canadian Derby and Sale Stakes Futurity.

The Greek Freek produced a late surge to finish a half-length behind the winner and earned $4,624(US) for runner-up honors. Silvino Morales rode the FDD Dynasty gelding for trainer Wesley T. Oulton and owner Austin Watterson.

Bred by Andy Knight and Austin Watterson, The Greek Freek is out of Girl Trick Mv, by Favorite Trick (TB). The 3-year-old has won three of 11 career starts with one second and earnings of $29,600. In addition to his runner-up effort in the Canadian Quarter Horse Cup Derby, he was a finalist in the All Canadian Derby and Century Mile Derby Challenge.

Jess The Train, who dueled throughout, finished another head back in third and collected $2,732(US). O. Amador Hernandez was aboard the Freighttrain B filly for trainer Buckey A. Stockwell and owners Commotion Creek Contracting and WT Ranches, Ltd.

Bred by Bob McClure, Jess the Train is out of Jess Ballin the Jack, by Feature Mr Jess.

The $37,486(CAN) Canadian Quarter Horse Cup Derby carried a U.S. value of $27,023, respectively.

O Sawyer finished fourth, followed by Hot Cerveza, Lethal N Rojo, Wagon Burner 109, and One Tough Cerveza. Clear Cerveza was scratched.
