Seis No More Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Mark In Fair Grounds' The Big Easy Futurity Trials
NEW ORLEANS, LA–AUGUST 23, 2024–Seis No More broke his maiden in the third of seven trials for the second-annual $114,390 The Big Easy Futurity today at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.
The ten fastest qualifiers will return to the NOLA racetrack on Friday, September 13, to vie for the winner's share of the purse worth $51,475 at a distance of 350 yards.
Seis No More posted the fastest qualifying time of 18.076 seconds into a 10 mph headwind. Jockey Jasiel Aquino rode the $50,000 Heritage Place September Sale graduate for owner TG Horse Racing LLC.
Guillermo Martinez saddled the son of champion Tempting Dash to his first win in five career starts. Shelby Hayden and Phillip Kowalski bred the bay gelding in Texas from the Tres Seis mare Tripled Effort. The second dam is the champion filly Tiny First Effort.
"Seis No More was really green early in the year and very tough to train," said Martinez. "I begged the owner to geld him, and finally, he agreed. That's what made the difference today; even when he got bumped pretty badly out of the gate, he came running."
Louisiana Downs Futurity(G2) finalist Gatlan was a 1-3/4 length winner in the second trial to get the second-fastest clocking of 18.174 seconds. Bumped at the break under jockey Guadalupe Lucio, Jr., the $63,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate races for owner Party Tyme Racing.
Jose Espinosa trains the Flying Cowboy 123 gelding out of Winerette by Big Daddy Cartel. Bred in Texas by Michele or Craig Snider, Gatlan has banked $22,101 in six career starts.
Tell Your Senators won his third race in five starts under jockey Jasel Aquino in the fourth trial, establishing the third-fastest time of 18.312 seconds into a 12 mph headwind.
Trainer Guillermo Martinez saddled the son of first-crop sire Tell Cartel for owner Fermin Alvarado. Flying A Racing and Westman Phrs. Bred the gray colt in Oklahoma from the Louisiana Senator mare Senator Joy. He has earned $15,060.
"He is like a baby, really calm, and one of my favorites," admitted Martinez. "We are happy to have two finalists for this futurity. After winning the leading trainer title at Delta Downs, we have some new owners, which is really exciting."
