Sam Houston Juvenile Winner Seis Chilitos Fastest On Night 2 of TQHA Yearling Sale Trials at Retama
SELMA, TX–JULY 5, 2024–Starting off a win in the Sam Houston Juvenile Stakes in her last start on June 15, Seis Chilitos posted a 1-1/2 length trial win Friday night to get the fastest qualifying time for the restricted Grade 1 $606,121 TQHA Sale Futurity at Retama Park.
The five fastest qualifiers from six trials tonight will join the five fastest from six trials on Thursday night (July 4) (see related story) when they return in the Friday, July 26 final, vying for a winner's purse valued at $269,723.
Trainer Juan Diaz, Jr. added three more qualifiers tonight to the two fastest he posted on Night 1 and will saddle half the field for the 2024 edition of the TQHA Sale Futurity.
Diaz named jockey Nestor Duran to ride the daughter of first-crop sire Chilitos in her 17.863 fastest clocking, equaling a 90-speed index into a 7 mph headwind. The $28,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate picked up her third win in five starts this season for owner Jaime Cardenas.
Richard Arizpe bred the gray filly in Texas from the Tres Seis mare Seis Passes. She has earned over $37,000.
Leviram Racing, LLC's Marfalous got his second career win in trial 5 to post the second fastest time of 17.966 seconds, an 87-speed index into an 8 mph headwind. Victor Urieta, Jr., had the riding assignment from Diaz aboard the son of second-crop sire The Marfa Lights.
The $10,000 TQHA Yearling Sale repurchase was a finalist in the Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity last month and has earned $46,782 in four career starts. Juan and Jairo Lozano bred the bay gelding from the Desirio mare Mystical Desire.
