Sadie Sweet Watters Prevails In Gillespie County Fair Sprint Classic

Sadie Sweet Watters held on in a tight finish Saturday to capture the $35,000 Gillespie County Fair Sprint Classic Stakes.

Ridden by Oliver Martinez, Sadie Sweet Watters took command in the 250-yard dash and dug in late to prevail by a head over Hes Bold As Corona. The 3-year-old filly stopped the clock in :13.244, earning a 101 speed index.

Arnold Lewis trains Sadie Sweet Watters, a homebred for Sunset Well Service Inc. The Texas-bred filly is sired by Muddy Watters and out of the Separatist mare Zooming Separatist. She improved her record to 8-4-0-1, and the $21,000 winner's share boosted her career earnings to $47,007.

Hes Bold As Corona finished second under H. Hernandez for owner Asael Isidoro Charmin Reyes and trainer Carlos Mendoza. The 4-year-old gelding dueled with the winner throughout, finishing a head back in :13.268. Bred by Salvador Olmeda, he is sired by Coronas Leaving You and out of the Desirio mare Shes Bold As Bold. Hes Bold As Corona has a record of 14-5-3-2 with earnings of $296,127. His stakes victories include the Mardi Gras Futurity (G2) and De Saix Stakes.

One Fine Wine finished third under Alejandro Medina for owner Victor Villarreal and trainer Martin Rodriguez. The 4-year-old gelding finished a half-length behind the winner in :13.330. Bred by Brandon Edwards, the $16,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate is sired by Hawkeye and out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Shezawinesnob. He now has a record of 19-3-5-3 with earnings of $58,072. Still seeking his first stakes victory, One Fine Wine previously finished second in the GCFA Dutchman Stakes.

Grand Hercules and Apollitical Lelo dead-heated for fourth, followed by Wagon High, Mrs Pyc Painted Nova, Zsuzannah and Toastin Coronas.
