Ruse Gold Sets Top Mark In Mardi Gras Oaks Trials at Louisiana Downs Wednesday
BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 5, 2025–Ruse Gold, a stakes-placed daughter of second-crop sire Gold Heart Eagle V, posted the fastest time from three trials Wednesday for the $50,000-added Mardi Gras Oaks at Louisiana Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from three trials contested for 3-year-old Louisiana-bred fillies will return to Louisiana Downs on Friday, March 28th, to vie for the winner's purse valued at $100,000 going 400 yards.
Racing for owner-breeder Ruse Ranch LLC, Ruse Gold completed the 400-yard task in 19.932 seconds, a 97-speed index, to garner the top qualifying spot. Trainer Jose Espinosa tapped jockey Arturo Alvarez to ride the filly, who was third in the Lassie Juvenile Stakes last season.
Bred from the Cosmographmare Cosmo Traffic, Ruse Gold has won three of eight starts and the trial purse valued at $4,200 boosted her bankroll to $29,100.
Fanny B Dove posted the most impressive trial victory in the card opener when the daughter of Stevie B First Cash defeated Golden Answerr by 1-1/4 lengths to get the fourth fastest time of 20.073, a 93-speed index with a 20 mph tailwind.
This was the second win for the Larry D. Keith trainee in seven starts. Leonardo Rodriguez had the riding all aboard the Randall Morein-owned filly. Morein and Phil Guilbeau bred Fanny B Dove from the Jazzing Hi mare Jazzing Micki. She has earned $27,200.
Multiple graded stakes finalist Rf Imperial Choice raced to her second in as many starts this season in the second trial for owner Armando Solia Castillo. Juan Garcia. Jr. rode the daughter of second-crop sire Imperial Hint (TB) to the sixth-fastest qualifying time of 20.109 seconds, a 92-speed index with a 20 mph tailwind.
Ismael Solis-Guevara trains the filly, who was fourth in the Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) last year and a finalist in the Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1). Bred by Rogers Farms (Tim and Jennie Rogers), Rf Imperial Choice has earned $88,687 off a (12) 4-1-0 record.
