Prize Flyter Steps Away In $163,460 Jim Bader Futurity Final on Saturday
ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 28, 2024—Third-fastest qualifier Prize Flyter, edged to a half-length win as the public's third-choice on Saturday in the $163,460 Jim Bader Futurity for Iowa-bred Juveniles at Prairie Meadow Race Course.
Ridden by jockey Miguel Ramirez, Prize Flyter completed her 350-yard task in 17.355 seconds, equaling a 101-speed index with an 8 mph tailwind. It was the third win in four starts for the daughter of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123.
Trainer Alex Wessels saddled the sorrel filly for owner LXXI Racing Stables. Bred by Craig Kirby, from the Tac It Like A Man mare Fast Prize Tacita, Prize Flyter earned $73,557.
Prize Flyter broke her maiden at first asking in a Hawkeye Futurity trial last June, then won an Allowance race in August before finishing second in her Jim Bader trial on September 7. She has earned $99,823.
Ajs Favorite Ia earned $29,423 for finishing second under jockey Jose Beltran. Also from the Wessels stable, the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel races for owner Stephen Moyle. Darling Farms bred the $47,606 earner from the Apollitical Jess mare Df Aj Green Leaves.
Flying Finn, a son of Flying Cowboy 123, earned $16,346 after finishing a half-length back in third. Edward Ross Hardy trains the Iowa homebred for owner-breeder Christine Hovey. Angel Ramirez had the riding call aboard the gelding out of Unveil by First Down Dash. Second in the Hawkeye Futurity last June, Flying Finn has earned $49,584 in five starts.
Cr Freighttrain, Kiss Me I Am Famous, Our First Ferarri, Trs Snot Nose Kid, Th Tres Of Red, Trapper Gurl, and Divas Lil Wagon completed the field.
