Play Rule Looks To Defend Battle Of The Breeds 870 Claiming Stakes Title After Setting Fastest Time
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 17, 2024–Play Rule, a thoroughbred son of Intimidator, rolled to a 2-1/2 length win in the last of two trials at Lone Star Park Thursday night, setting the fastest qualifying time for the Battle Of The Breeds 870 Claiming Stakes (Not Black Type).
The eight fastest qualifiers will return to the Grand Prairie racetrack on Thursday, November 24, to vie for the winner's share of a $58,000-added purse going 870 yards.
Under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., Play Rule, circled the field then drew off to clock 46.492 seconds into a 3 mph headwind for the 870 yards. Trainer Steve Roubion saddled the 6-year-old gelding to his fifth career win for owner Hamilin Ventures.
Play Rule won last year's Battle Of The Breeds 870 Claiming Stakes (Not Black Type) at Lone Star Park. Keith Asmussen bred Play Rule in Texas from Cats Rule by Sir Cat. He has earned $47,207.
Three-Quarter Horses, Run Bubba Run-3rd fastest, Jtc Switching Leads 4th fastest, and El Bee Dee-7th fastest, qualified.
All horses participating in the trials were eligible for claim at $7,500. Axel Steel, My Little Prince, Run Bubba Run, and Blingo were claimed.
