Papas Dynasty Surges Late To Win WABRA Wyoming Bred Derby Consolation

Papas Dynasty overcame a rough start and surged in the final strides to defeat Bigg Judy by a nose in Saturday's $25,000 Accredited Wyoming Bred WABRA Derby Consolation at Sweetwater Downs.

Under jockey Juan Carlos Rivas, Papas Dynasty completed the 400 yards in :20.060, earning an 88 speed index over a fast racing surface. An 8 mph crosswind was reported for the race.

The 3-year-old gelding was bumped around leaving the gate but recovered quickly before producing a strong late run to catch Bigg Judy at the wire.

Trainer Ross Brown conditions Papas Dynasty for owner Bryce Moosman. Bred in Wyoming by Kathy Moosman and Ron Moosman, the brown gelding is by multiple stakes sire Jr Dynasty Mountain from the Pappasito mare Gotta Lotta Papa.

The $12,500 winner's share increased Papas Dynasty's career earnings to $41,843. He has compiled four wins, two seconds and five thirds from 14 starts. In addition to Saturday's WABRA Wyoming Bred Derby Consolation victory, he was previously a finalist in the 307HR Wyoming Bred Derby.

Bigg Judy closed strongly after being away a step slowly and missed the victory by only a nose. The runner-up earned $6,250 for owner-trainer Paul Greene, increasing her career earnings to $36,795 from 11 starts with three wins, three seconds and no thirds.

Jose Juan Olivo rode Bigg Judy. Bred by Dan or Kim Lapierre, the 3-year-old filly is by Junior June Bug from The Senators Holme, by Louisiana Senator. She was also runner-up in the Seedskadee Overnight Stakes earlier in her career.

Dulce Kubata, who broke sharply and held the early advantage, finished a neck behind Bigg Judy in third. The 3-year-old gelding earned $2,500 for owner Calli Vantassell.

Cesar T. Moreno rode Dulce Kubata for trainer Calli VanTassell Dominguez. Bred by Dan And/Or Patricia Baker, he is by a leading second-crop sire, Dulce Sin Tacha, from the Maknmoves mare Bf Memory Lane. Dulce Kubata has one win, five seconds, and five thirds from 18 starts and earnings of $30,821. He was previously a finalist in the Wyoming Downs Futurity.

Touche Jr finished fourth, followed by Cgr Crooked Cowboy, Sixs Cb Blakely, Tm Cyclotron, Tiny Surfer, and A Tilted Taste. Surfinoverthemoon was scratched.
