Osc Is On Fire Sets Fastest Time To The Colors Of The Alamo P&A Futurity [G3]
SELMA, TX–AUGUST 1, 2024—On Thursday evening, 22 juveniles raced in three trials for a spot in the $60,000 estimated Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity [G3] at Retama Park. Osc Is On Fire set the time to beat to return to the finals on August 17, 2024.
Osc Is On Fire, ridden by Nestor Duran, defeated post-time favorite Flyin Chilitos by a nose in trial two for the fastest qualifying time in 18.138 seconds. The son of Highest Fire clocked an 82-speed index against an eight mph headwind, and the 350-yard victory paid $5.60 to win.
Trained by Juan Diaz Jr, Osc Is On Fire has a record of 3-1-1 from six starts and $45,600 in the bank. Earlier this season, the Oklahoma-bred gelding won the Victoria Ennis Memorial [G2], placed third in the Oklahoma P&A Futurity [G1], and was a finalist in the Colors of Houston Futurity.
Wade and Susan Leggett bred Osc Is On Fire out of the Jess Lips mare Cl Oooh Sexy Lips. He is owned by Rogelio Sandoval.
Runner-up to Osc Is On Fire, Flyin Chilitos clocked the second fastest time in 18.146 seconds under the guidance of Eleazar Hernandez. The son of Oklahoma's #2 leading first-year sire Chilitos lit the board four of five starts with $23,329 in earnings, including a second in the Colors of Houston Futurity [G2].
Trainer Leonel Hernandez saddled the bay gelding for owner Omar Paredes. Flyin Chilitos was bred by Claudia Miranda in Texas out of the Louisiana Senator mare Sensational Senator.
