One Sweet Boss Best In Restricted Grade 2 Mid City Stakes

NEW ORLEANS, LA–SEPTEMBER 7, 2024–One Sweet Boss showed he was the best in the restricted Grade 2 $50,000 Mid City Stakes for state-breds on Saturday, romping to a half-length victory at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans.

One Sweet Boss stuck early under jockey Guadalupe Lucio, Jr., to complete the 440 yards in 20.020 seconds, an 88-speed index into a 10 mph tailwind on a track labeled "Good".

Phillip Calais, Jr. saddled the Louisiana homebred for owner-breeder Flying K Ranch, LLC. The 6-year-old multiple graded stakes winner is by multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess from the Rakin In The Cash mare Starlight Bess.

A seven-time winner from 29 starts, One Sweet Boss earned $30,000 to increase his bankroll to nearly $170,000. He won the Miss Polly Classic Stakes (RG2) last year.

Runner-up Lil Too Dirty chased under jockey Yaidel Rodriguez to earn $10,000 for second. Trainer Adalberto Miranda saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Open Me A Corona to this third win in 12 starts for owner Leobersi Perez. Eduardo and Christine Morales bred the 4-year-old from the American Champ( TB) mare Lil Prairie Maid.

Stakes winner Cool Ya Jets broke in under jockey Bobby Ramson and finished third, earning $5,500. Champion trainer Kenneth L. Roberts, Sr., conditions the Jet Black Patriot 4-year-old for owner Pete Scarmardo. Bayou Stirling Equine LLC bred the 4-year-old filly from the Heza Fast Dash mare McM On Thin Ice. She has earned $280,438.

Post-time favorite Into The Grey was fourth, followed by B A Lady, Good Lookin Patriot, and Wild Train Fortune. Masseto was scratched.
