One Fast Cajun Gets Fourth Consecutive Win, Second Stakes of Delta Downs Quarter Horse Meet
VINTON, LA–JULY 13, 2024–One Fast Cajun went from last to first to get his fourth consecutive win and second consecutive stakes victory Saturday at Delta Downs. The son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash won the $50,000 Live Oak Stakes by 6-1/4 lengths.
One Fast Cajun broke last under jockey Ubaldo Luna, chasing the field into the turn before going four wide into the stretch and then running away from the field. He clocked 46.347 seconds over the 870 yards, equaling a 91-speed index on a muddy (sealed) surface.
"He didn't break really well, like last time, but he found a way to get through the horses," Ublado said after the win.
Trainer Shane Ladner saddled the 6-year-old multiple stakes winner to his 14th win in 26 starts for owners Norman Ladner and Darrin Ladner.
"He ran like that the last time," Shane Ladner said following the win. "It's nerve-racking. He gets it home. I have had a good 870 horse, but not like this; he's a super horse."
Terry Gabriel bred the bay gelding from the thoroughbred mare Cajun Rocket by Lion Tamer. The $30,000 Live Oak winner's purse boosted One Fast Cajun's earnings to $283,300.
Luna celebrated 46 wins as the leading jockey at the meet at Delta Downs in this Live Oak Stakes.
"I would like to thank God and everybody who made this possible," an emotional Ubaldo said. Some of my people came all the way from Georgia, and they make everything possible. My wife is always supporting and helping me."
Runner-up Hez Hunters Rogue earned $10,000 for second. Crosby Mcdonald saddled the homebred for owner-breeder Jerr-Wood Ranch. Jose Rodriguez had the riding call aboard the Heza Fast Rogue 4-year-old from the Swingin Jess mare Rdd Swingin Reba.
A nose back, Rogues Fast Sister earned $5,500 for third. Trainer Gary Mason named jockey Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. to ride the Heza Fast Rouge mare for owner Amber Denise Mason. Tammy Broussard and Damian Trahan bred the $120,949 multiple stakes-placed winner from the thoroughbred mare T Frere' Sister by Cherokee Beau.
Masons Jet Black, Power Up, and Jess Catch This completed the field.
