Ojd Jess A Bug Stays Perfect at 5-for-5, Posts Top Mark in Sweetwater Downs Futurity Trials

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–AUGUST 24, 2024–Two-time futurity winner and undefeated Ojd Jess A Bug posted the fastest qualifying time from seven trials races contested today for the Sweetwater Downs Futurity in Rock Spring, Wyoming.

The ten fastest qualifiers will return to Sweetwater Downs on Saturday, September 7, to vie for the winner's share of a $135,000-est. purse at a distance of 350 yards.

Ojd Jess A Bug flew late under jockey Jorge Garcia to win by a length, completing his task in the fastest clocking of 17.595 seconds, a 91-speed index with a 23 mph tailwind.

Trainer Javier Fuentes saddled the son of multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess to his fifth consecutive win in as many starts for owner-breeders Karla Diaz-Gomez and Oscar Jaime Diaz.

Bred in Idaho, from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Bugs Wagon, Ojd Jess A Bug won $77,654 for the Hadley-Giles Futurity in May and the Bitterroot Futurity(RG3) in his previous start on July 25. He has earned $77,315.

Divory, a $60,000 Heritage Place September Sale graduate, broke her maiden in the fifth trial to get the second-fastest clocking. Jockey David Alvarez, Jr. rode the daughter of champion sire Ivory James to a 17.668 clocking, an 89-speed index with a 23 mph tailwind.

Josh Taylor trains the royally bred filly for owner Bill Doenz. Bred in Oklahoma by Laura Erickson, from the Strawfly Special mare Daring Diversion, Divory has earned $4,504 in five starts.
