Ojd Jess A Bug Remains Undefeated at Seven, Sets Fastest Idaho Cup Derby Trial Time

POCATELLO, ID–MAY 4, 2025–Undefeated graded stakes winner Ojd Jess A Bug picked up where he left off last season on Sunday when he flew from the gate to set the fastest qualifying time for the $20,000-est. Idaho Cup Derby.
Ridden by jockey Jorge Garcia, Ojd Jess A Bug got his seventh career win as he galloped to a 2 3/4 length victory. The son of multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess covered the 350 yards in 17.592 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index into an 8 mph crosswind, the fastest of the day!
Javier Fuentes trains the homebred for owner-breeders Karla Diaz-Gomez and Oscar Diaz. Bred from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Bugs Wagon, Ojd Jess A Bug won the Bitterroot Futurity(RG3), Sweetwater Downs Futurity and Hadley/Giles Futurity last season. He has earned $138,415.
Last year's Idaho Cup Futurity winner Luv Ya was a one-length winner in the first trial for owners Cody Allred and Keller Livestock to get the second fastest time of 17.927, a 90 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.
Trainer Sergio Canales named jockey Jesus Canales to ride the daughter of multiple stakes sire Docs Best Card from the Proudest Effort mare Shi D Anna. Allreds Horse Haven bred the five-time winner of $36,055.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races for accredited state-bred 3-year-olds, contested on Sunday's card, will return to the Idaho racetrack on Sunday, May 25, to vie for a share of the winner's purse going a distance of 350 yards.
