Miss Royal Hawk Tops Far West Futurity Trials at Grants Pass

Miss Royal Hawk continued her outstanding 2-year-old campaign Sunday afternoon when she posted the fastest qualifying time for the $30,000-added Far West Futurity at Grants Pass Downs.

Four 400-yard trials were contested to determine the 10 finalists who will return for the Far West Futurity final on October 12.

Miss Royal Hawk dominated the opening trial, defeating Kvn Popped Off by 1 1/4 lengths while stopping the timer in :19.828, the fastest clocking of the afternoon. The sorrel filly broke cleanly under jockey Jaime E. Lopez and showed speed throughout.

Jose A. Rosales Gomez trains Miss Royal Hawk for owner and breeder Ismael Villarreal. The Oregon-bred daughter of The Cartel Hawk is out of Miss Royal Rumble, by Royal Shake Em.

Sunday's victory was the sixth in seven career starts for Miss Royal Hawk, who has earned $67,344. She previously won the Pocatello Downs Spring Futurity and Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass and finished second in the Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge.

Fast Fly turned in the second-fastest qualifying time when he won the third trial in :19.906. The sorrel gelding battled throughout before inching clear by one-half length under jockey Oscar M. Peinado.

Lorenzo Marquez Campos conditions Fast Fly for owner Abelardo Hernandez. Bred in Washington by Juan Manuel Marquez, the gelding is by Fly Chisholm Fly from Chelsea's Flame, by Flame Thrower.

Fast Fly broke his maiden int he trials in his sixth career start, earning $2,745. He was previously a finalist in the Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass and the Emerald Downs Juvenile.

Big Kixx Cartel recorded the third-fastest time, breaking his maiden with a determined victory in the second trial. The sorrel colt completed 400 yards in :19.910, defeating Winter Hawk Cartel by a neck under jockey Oscar M. Peinado.

Adrian Gonzalez trains Big Kixx Cartel for Rancho AA LLC. Bred in Texas by Belinda Pustka, the colt is by Kiss My Hocks from Fame in Rio, by Big Daddy Cartel.

Big Kixx Cartel was a $32,000 purchase at the 2025 TQHA Yearling Sale. Sunday's maiden-breaking victory improved his record to one win and one third from two starts with earnings of $3,248.

Rounding out the 10 fastest qualifiers were Winter Hawk Cartel (:19.947), Iza Diva (:19.965), One Fabulous Cartel (:19.984), Ima Flyin Fool (:19.985), La Chata Jg (:20.002), Kvn Popped Off (:20.022) and Tomatito (:20.034).

The second 10 fastest qualifiers from Sunday's trials are eligible to return on October 12 for the $14,000 Far West Futurity Consolation.
