Miss Fancy Nancy Dominates All Canadian Derby Trials at Century Mile Racecourse
EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 6, 2024—Bouncing off a sixth-place finish in the Adequan Century Mile Derby Challenge in her last start on June 29, Miss Fancy Nancy rolled to a 1-3/4 length win today while setting the fastest time for the All Canadian Derby at Century Mile Racecourse.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from two trials contested today will return to Century Mile Race Course on Saturday, July 20, to vie for the winner's share of a $20,000-added (CAN) purse.
Miss Fancy Nancy broke alertly under jockey Jesus Medina to complete the 350 yards in 17.513, equaling a 109-speed index with a 20 mph tailwind. It was the third career win 12 starts for the daughter of multiple stakes sire Big Lew.
Misael Moreno trains the Alberta homebred for owner-breeders Barry and Janice Sather. Out of the Favorite Cartel mare Singles Cruise, Miss Fancy Nancy was second in the Grade 3 Canada Cup Futurity and the John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge last year.
Get It Good was a head winner over Fired in the second trial to get the second fastest time of 17.669, a 105-speed index with a 20 mph tailwind. Trainer Buckey Stockwell named jockey Amador Hernandez to ride the Jd Wagon Boss gelding for owner WT Ranches, Ltd.
Barry and Janice Sather bred the graded-placed gelding from Status Symbal by Favorite Cartel. Second in the Horsemen's Derby in May, Get It Good has earned over $37,500.
