Miss Fancy Nancy Captures Cup Classic Stakes For Third Consecutive Victory

Miss Fancy Nancy extended her winning streak to three consecutive races with a one-length victory in the $14,833 Cup Classic Stakes at Century Downs on Sunday, September 20.

Ridden by Daniel Tavares, Miss Fancy Nancy brushed with Fired leaving the gate before taking command and drawing clear to win the 440-yard event in :21.618, earning a 93 speed index. The 5-year-old mare was sent off as the 3-5 favorite over a fast track.

Miss Fancy Nancy is a homebred for Barry and Janice Sather and is trained by Misael Moreno. The $7,862 winner's share of the purse boosted her career earnings to $157,539, with a record of 26-11-8-2.

The brown mare entered the race off back-to-back victories in the Century Mile Championship Challenge Stakes and Alberta Bred Maturity. Sunday's win marked the eighth stakes victory of her career.

Miss Fancy Nancy is sired by Big Lew and out of the stakes-winning Favorite Cartel mare Singles Cruise.

O Seeyalater surged late to finish second, a half-length ahead of Flight Club. Ridden by Alejandro Angeles, the 6-year-old mare covered the distance in :21.824, earning an 89 speed index.

O Seeyalater races for owner Jeffrey R. W. Rath and trainer Wesley Oulton, who also bred the mare. A $12,000 AQHRA Yearling Sale graduate, she is sired by First Timber and out of the Pappasito mare Howdoyado.

She entered the race off consecutive victories in the Alberta Stallion Maturity Stakes and Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge Stakes. O Seeyalater has won five additional stakes events during her career and now holds a record of 34-9-4-7 with earnings of $186,853.

Flight Club rallied late to finish third under Alexander Marti, stopping the clock in :21.943 and earning an 86 speed index.

Owned by Jerry Stojan and trained by William Leech, the 8-year-old gelding was bred by Steve D. Burns, DVM, and is a $19,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate. He is sired by Foose and out of the Separatist mare Seperate Flight.

Flight Club entered the race with victories earlier this season in the Old Timers Classic and CTD Distance #3 Stakes. The 18-time stakes winner now holds a career record of 38-21-7-5 with earnings of $259,391.

First Famous Prize finished fourth under O. Hernandez, followed by Fired in fifth under Ricardo Moreno. O La Dee Da was scratched by the stewards.
