Love Kiss J Lee Gets The Upset Victory In Sweetwater Downs Governor's Handicap

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–SEPTEMBER 21, 2024–With 10-1 odds out of the gates, Love Kiss J Lee scores his first career stakes win for the upset in the $17,000 Governor's Handicap on Saturday at Sweetwater Downs.

Jockey Cesar Moreno led Love Kiss J Lee from wire-to-wire for a half-length victory in 20.154 seconds. The son of Kiss My Hocks clocked a 90-speed index, and the 400-yard winning effort paid $23.20 to win.

Rayshas Pink Cartel was up for second under jockey Daniel Carrillo, paying a whopping $34.80 to place, and Unavailable, ridden by Julian Zavala, followed in for third.

Love Kiss J Lee earned $8,500 for the win, increasing his career total to $44,205, and six victories for owner-breeder Melody Olsen of Utah. Glade Van Tassell trains the five-year-old gelding out of Love That Look by Favorite Cartel.

Trainer Brent Bowman saddled runner-up Rayshas Pink Cartel for owner Hemsley Ranch. The daughter of Favorite Cartel has four wins and $29,833 in earnings. Renegade Rcg and Spackman Rcg bred the four-year-old filly in Utah out of Rayshas Pink Sky by Dominyun.

Third-place finisher Unavailable has five wins and lifetime earnings of $86,450. Raelee Giles conditions the five-year-old stakes winner for owner David Hinkins, who purchased her for $17,000 in the 2020 Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Reliance Ranches, LLC bred Unavailable in Oklahoma out of the Corona Cartel mare Shades Of Blues Girl.
