AJAX, ONT–AUGUST 14, 2024–Longshot Queen Charlotte edged her way in for a big win on Wednesday in the $22,706 (US) Princess Maturity at Ajax Downs.

Owner-trainer James Bogar sent Queen Charlotte out on 12-1 odds under jockey D. Benitez. The daughter of One Fabulous Eagle clocked a 101 speed index assisted by an 11 mph tailwind in :19.862 seconds. The length upset over post-time favorite Valiant Chick Insnow paid $25.00 to win on a $2.00 wager.

Valiant Chick Insnow, with Brian Bell in the irons, broke alertly, making a good effort towards the goal. She crossed the wire in a photo finish for second over Queen Charlotte's stablemate Hanover Hill Theresa and jockey Christian Benitez, who placed third.

"I was hoping Queen Charlotte would come out on top with Hanover Hill Theresa coming in close behind. She has shown a lot of promise, and I just believed she could do it," said Bogar.

Queen Charlotte had a slow start this season, placing fifth and sixth in her first two outs. But after some adjustments, the three-year-old filly won a Speed Index Race last month.

She returned for the $12,515 winner's check in today's 400-yard stakes, boosting her earnings to $47,378. The victory improved her career race record to five wins and three seconds from 15 starts.

Bogar commented, "I always thought she could be a stakes horse. She's had a tough go this year, and looking at her record on paper, you wouldn't think she would win this race, but she showed us she could.

Bogar praised Nicole Clark for her role on their team, saying, "Nicole takes care of all the horses on a daily basis and deserves a lot of credit for these girls."

Bogar bred Queen Charlotte Ontario out of the Tres Seis mare Leanintoit. He also owns and trains third-place finisher Hanover Hill Theresa, who was bred by Picov Cattle Co. out of the Demaloot Demashoot mare Ethoria. The stakes-winning daughter of Sugarman Perry has lit the board 20 of 32 starts with seven wins and $94,351 in the bank.

Trainer Jason Pascoe saddled runner-up Valiant Chick Insnow for owner-breeder Milena Kwiecien. The stakes-winning daughter of Valiant Hero has six career wins with $85,433 in the bank. She was bred in Oklahoma out of AJ Chick In 15 by Apollitical Jess.

Had To Be Ivy, Firstprize Charlotte, Jess A Deal, Sw The Tempest, Ice Cream Cartel and Ruby Jess round out of the order of finish.
