VINTON, LA–MAY 2, 2025–Delta Downs held 10 qualifying trials for this year’s $243,625 Louisiana restricted Grade 2 Lassie Futurity on Friday night, and Luis Rosales Martinez, Jr.’s Lm Ms Apollitical ($11.40) set the fastest time for 330 yards.

Each trial on Friday night’s program carried a purse of $10,000, and the winners took home $6,000 apiece. The Lassie Futurity final will occur on Friday, May 23, and the winner will earn a paycheck of $121,812.

Ridden by Delta Downs 2024 leading jockey, Ubaldo Luna, Lm Ms Apollitical burst from the gate and led all the way while making her career debut. The 2-year-old filly by champion sire Apollitical Blood, out of the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Ur Louisiana Blue, is trained by Francisco Javier Bernal.

Racing over a muddy track, Lm Ms Apollitical won the fifth trial of the evening by one length in 16.980 seconds, earning her a speed index of 87.

Marcy Train B broke her maiden in the second trial to post the second fastest clocking of 17.048 seconds, an 85 speed index on a muddy (sealed) surface. Trainer Miguel Castillo tapped jockey Nestor Duran to ride the daughter of world champion sire Freighttrain B.

Jaime Cardenas paid $41,000 for the sorrel filly at the 2024 LQHBA Yearling Sale in Kinder. Bumped at the start, she surged at the wire to win. Grant Farms LLC bred Marcy Train B from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessbye Marcy. She has earned $7,260 in three starts.

Luci B, another Freighttrain B filly, finished a head back in the second trial to record the third fastest time of 17.066 seconds. Owner-breeder Oscar Edel Moreno repurchased the brown filly for $22,000 at the LQHBA Sale last summer.

Trainer Donald Watson, Jr. named Francisco Garcia, Jr., to ride the brown filly out of Luci 123 by FDD Dynasty. Winless in three starts, Luci B did finish eighth in the restricted Grade 2 Mardi Gras Futurity last March. She has earned $15,373.

Delta Downs will conclude its second week of Quarter Horse racing on Saturday with a special 11-race program starting at 6:15pm. Each race on the card is a qualifying trial for this year’s $268,895 Laddie Futurity.
