Lightly Raced Flayvorite Trick Sets Best Time In John Whipp Wyoming Stallions Breeders Derby Trial

ROCK SPRINGS, WY–SEPTEMBER 1, 2024–Flayvorite Trick set the time to beat after winning the last of four trials on Sunday to the 18,500-added John Whipp Wyoming Stallion Breeders' Quarter Horse Derby at Sweetwater Downs.

Jose Olivo led Flayvorite Trick from wire-to-wire for a 3/4-length victory over Quickkey Corona. The post-time favorite clocked the best time of the day in 17.719 seconds for an 88 speed index. The 350-yard effort paid $5.60 to win on 8-5 odds.

Flayvorite Trick did not race his freshman year. His first start was a fifth-place finish at Energy Downs in June on this year. In July, the son of Flay broke his maiden at Wyoming Downs and improved his record to two wins in three starts with today's trial victory. The $2,000 payday increased his earnings to $10,060.

Zachary Quezada saddled Flayvorite Trick for owner Valencias Quarter Horses. Chuck and Erica Jaure bred the lightly raced gelding out of Tricky Cartel by Southern Cartel.

Piloted by Jarred Journet, Moon Em N Dash broke fifth from the gates of trial two. He flew in late at the wire for the win by 1 1/2 lengths over Cd Rockin Da Kas, setting the second-best time. The son of Brindis Por Cayenne clocked an 87 speed index in 17.760 seconds, which paid $4.80 to win on 7-5 odds.

Trainer Jess Matt conditions Moon Em N Dash for owners James Ferguson and Stephanie Ferguson. The $3,050 trial winnings increased his earnings to $25,088.

Moon Em N Dash has lit the board 11 of 13 starts with a record of 4-2-5, including second in the Great Falls Overnight Futurity and third in the Energy Downs AQHA Bonus Challenge Stakes and Wyoming Accredited Stallion Owners Futurity.

Walter Larson bred Moon Em N Dash in Wyoming out of the Apollo (TB) mare Dashmetothemoon.
