SUNLAND, NM–MARCH 9, 2025–Last year's West Texas Maturity [G3] winner, Rc Corona King, remains undefeated in 2025 with his second victory this year in the $65,000 added West Texas Maturity [G3] trials on Sunday afternoon at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Sergio Dominguez, Rc Corona King set the time to beat in 19.37 seconds. The son of leading second-year sire Eye Am King clocked a 93-speed index after crossing the wire 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Kj Wicked Wanda. The post-time favorite's 400-yard victory paid 3.40 to win on 1-2 odds.

The $5,340 winner's share of the purse boosts Rc Corona King's bankroll to $416,360. The victory marks his third consecutive, including the NM Classic Championship Stakes [G1] in December of 2024 and the Red Or Green Stakes [G2] at Sunland in January of this year. He has a record of 7-4-3 from 21 starts.

Rc Corona King has four stakes wins under his belt, including the First Moonflash Maturity and West Texas Maturity [G3] last year. He also placed second in the Zia Stakes [G2], Jimmy Drake Stakes [G3], and third in the Championship at Sunland Park [G1] and Mountain Top Derby.

Baldemar Parra bred Rc Corona King in New Mexico out of the Deefirst mare Classyoddsofdeefirst. Trainer Gerardo Quinonez saddled the five-year-old gelding for owner Jose Riojas.

Kj Wildthang, ridden by Christian Ramos, clocked the second-fastest time with a 91-speed index in 19.456 seconds after scoring his first victory of the season from gate-to-wire over Lett It Happen. Favored to win the race, the son of world champion sire Apollitical Jess' victory paid $5.60 to win on 8-5 odds.

Kj Wildthang has lit the boar 15 of 78 starts with seven wins and $223,956 in earnings. The multiple blacktype earner won the Zia Park Invitational Championship Stakes [G1] in December of last year at Zia Park and is coming off of a fifth place finish in the Championship at Sunland Park Stakes [G1] last month.

Wes Giles trains the six-year-old gelding for owners Jon and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares, who also have two other finalists in the Maturity, Kj Flying Cowgirl and Kj Wicked Wanda. Lee & Sherwood Racing bred Kj Wildthang in Arizona out of Wild Six by Tres Seis.
