La Nanas Gets Fifth Consecutive Win of 2024 In the $100,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes [G2]
HOBBS, NM–DECEMBER 15, 2024–La Nanas pulled into the front at the wire for first in the $100,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes, the second of 12 stakes races on the Zia Park card, Sunday afternoon.
With Jacob Enriquez aboard, La Nanas got up at first call and took her lead to the wire for a neck victory. She clocked a 104-speed index while running against a ten mph headwind in 17.184 seconds. The 350-yard victory paid $5.40 to win on 8-5 odds.
Twin Forks, ridden by Sergio Becerra, Jr., chased La Nanas but just missed by a neck for a close second. Cuz Lightyear, piloted by Bryan Candanosa got show a length ahead of the remaining contenders.
After breaking maiden in her first and only start of 2023, La Nanas returned to the track in April of this year, where she recorded the only non-win of her career in an Allowance race at Sunland Park. Since that loss, the daughter of Foose has won all of her outs, for a total of six victories from seven starts.
Today's $57,600 victory payday boosted La Nanas' earnings to $162,904 for owner-breeder Amado De La Riva of Arizona. Alfredo Gomez trains the three-year-old filly out of Shakin Ana Dashin by Late To Bed.
Trainer Ramon Mendoza saddled runner-up Twin Forks for owners Empire Racing and Pavon Racing, LLC. The three-year-old gelding has lit the board nine of 12 starts with four wins, and today's second-place earnings puts his bankroll over the six-figure mark with $111,387.
Twin Forks' top stakes performances include a third-place finish in the La Fiesta Futurity [G3] and fifth in the Southwest Juvenile Invitational [G2]. Dr. Steve D. Burns, DVM, bred the $37,000 Los Alamitos Sale graduate in California from the Sum Fun To Bet mare Miss Kittys Bar Bet.
Third-place finisher Cuz Lightyear has a record of 4-2-1 from 11 starts and $185,999 in the bank. The Double Bar S Ranch, LLC homebred was a finalist in the All American Futurity [G1], All American Derby [G1] and Ruidoso Juvenile Stakes.
Toby Keeton trains the three-year-old son of Corona Cartel. Cuz Lightyear was bred in Oklahoma out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Cuz.
Hallmarke, Im A Fancee Chik (favorite), Speed Thru Fire, Lett It Happen, Think On It, Rbybybaby and Jess For Your Lady complete the order of finish.
