Kc Shes Cartel Scores Upset Victory In $43,798 Derby Criadores Mexicanos At Hipódromo De Las Américas

Kc Shes Cartel delivered an upset victory in the 32nd running of the $43,770 Derby Criadores Mexicanos at Hipódromo de las Américas on Sunday evening. The three-year-old filly completed the 440-yard event in :21.63 seconds over a fast track, earning a 98 speed index.

Ridden by Arturo Vega Moreno, Kc Shes Cartel broke from post one and secured the victory over a field of nine rivals. Sent off at odds of 14.55-1, the filly earned her seventh career victory while defeating several accomplished stakes runners in the final race of Sunday's nine-race program.

Kc Shes Cartel races for Cuadra Las Vegas and is trained by Angel Gustavo Magdaleno. Bred by Abelardo Gallegos Fernandez, she is sired by champion stallion Krash Cartel and out of the Apollitical Jess mare Shes Tough Enough. She now has a race record of 17-7-2-1, and the approximately $18,387 winner's share boosted her total earnings to approximately $86,027.

The filly entered Sunday's Derby with six wins, three second-place finishes and two thirds from 16 career starts. Earlier this season, she finished second in the Derby Subasta Selecta on June 28 and recorded another runner-up finish in her August 23 start. Sunday's victory marked an important addition to her racing accomplishments.

Woman Jessy Fly finished second under Uriel Lopez for owner Cuadra Mendoza and trainer Victor Jarillo Sanchez. Bred by Abelardo Gallegos Fernandez, the filly is sired by champion stallion Krash Cartel and out of the Jess To Fly mare Jess To Fly. She now has a race record of 18-5-3-6 and approximately $36,889 in career earnings.

Woman Jessy Fly entered Sunday's final following a fourth-place finish in her August 23 start. Earlier in the season, she finished third in the Derby Garañones on May 3 and recorded a runner-up finish in an allowance event on May 24.

Br Chago completed the trifecta under champion jockey Huberclein Gomez for owner Cuadra Bronco Rider and trainer Liderme Rene Gomez Diaz. Bred by Maximiliano Perez Castañeda, the gelding is sired by Jess Lips and out of the Ocean Runaway mare Ocean Glory. He now has a race record of 11-4-1-1 and approximately $59,613 in career earnings.

Br Chago entered the Derby following a successful season that included a victory in the Derby Subasta Selecta on June 28. He also captured his August 9 trial for the Derby Criadores Mexicanos before finishing fourth in the final on August 30.

Dk Goliat finished fourth, followed by Kc Coco Cristal in fifth, Mi Krash Favorito in sixth, Hf Hope Is Back in seventh, Mr Do Chicks in eighth, Br Misil in ninth and Rg Yaka Yaka Cartel in tenth. Dk Barby Cartel was scratched.

The Derby Criadores Mexicanos carried a total purse of approximately $43,770, with the runner-up earning approximately $7,443 and the third-place finisher receiving approximately $5,254. The 440-yard event concluded Sunday's nine-race program at Hipódromo de las Américas, which also featured the 43rd running of the Futurity Las Américas.
