Jess Corona Blue Holds On To Win $40,000 Louisiana Starter Stakes in Louisiana Showcase at Delta Do
VINTON, LA–JULY 13, 2024–Jess Corona Blue raced to his fourth win this season on Saturday when he defeated The Fiscal Flyer by a head in the $40,000 Louisiana Starter Stakes on the 2024 Quarter Horse meets closing night Delta Downs.
Under jockey Rolando Cabrera, Jess Corona Blue jumped out to a quick lead and held off a late charge to complete the 300 yards in 15.457 seconds, a 90-speed index on a muddy (sealed) racing surface with a 5 mph tailwind.
Trainer Emily Jeane saddled the 7-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue to his fifth career win for owner Jose Martin Pargas. Brent Cody Leblanc bred the gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Catrina. Today's $24,000 winner's purse boosted his lifetime mark to nearly $70,000.
Runner-up The Fiscal Flyer surged late to earn $8,000 for finishing second. Trainer Donald Rubin named Bobby Ransom to ride the 3-year-old The Fiscal Cliff gelding out of Chicks Fly by Chicks Regard. A home bred for owner-breeder Robin Redding The Fiscal Flyer had earned $31,555.
Another neckback Ks Grand Kiss picked up $4,400 for the third. Trainer Crosby Mcdonald saddled the 4-year-old FDD Going Grand filly for owner Juan Landaverde. Karl Smith bred the gray filly from the Quick To Flare Up mare Kisses For Us. Jose Rodriguez had the riding call.
Rio Rojo Negras finished fourth but was disqualified and placed eighth for interference. Completing the official order of finish were San Lorenzo Girl, Fletch My Alcohol, Rip Blade, Ole Grand Web, and Rio Rojo Negras.
