Jess A Lil Whiskey Tops Jim Bader Futurity Qualifiers

Four trials were held for the $194,525-estimated Jim Bader Futurity at Prairie Meadows on Sept. 5, with Jess A Lil Whiskey posting the fastest qualifying time.

Jess A Lil Whiskey won the third trial by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Angel Ramirez. The Tony Dean Jones trainee is owned by Jose Antonio Villegas and Jim Kobett. Bred by HK Performance Horses, the gelding is sired by Flying Cowboy 123 and out of the Valiant Hero mare Jess Valiant. After finishing second in the Hawkeye Futurity earlier this season, Jess A Lil Whiskey now has a record of 4-3-1-0 with $45,108 in earnings.

Thewayperrywantstoo won the fourth and final trial under Angel Ramirez to post the second-fastest qualifying time. Trained by Lane Johnston for owner Stephen Moyle, the gelding is sired by Mr Jess Perry and out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Thewayouwantmetoo. Bred by Darling Farms and Dr. Richard Beck, he has a record of 4-2-1-0 with $23,686 in earnings. Thewayperrywantstoo was a finalist in the Hawkeye Futurity earlier this season.

Flying Copy Cat won the opening trial under Angel Ramirez to post the third-fastest qualifying time. Trained by Tony Dean Jones, the Mark Allen Sorensen homebred is sired by Pyc Paint Your Wagon and out of the Talkalota Bull mare Fly Around Chueca. She now has a record of 5-1-0-0 with $8,254 in earnings.

The $194,525-estimated Jim Bader Futurity final is set for Sept. 26 at Prairie Meadows.
