Hunny Moon Gets Second Consecutive Win In The Ocean Wave Futurity
TILLAMOOK, OR–AUGUST 9,2024–Jockey Jose Lopez piloted Hunny Moon to victory with record-setting speed in the $11,100 Ocean Wave Futurity (not black type) at Tillamook County Fair on Friday evening.
Hunny Moon clocked a 112-speed index in 11.153 seconds, breaking Corona Legacy's 220-yard track record set in 2022. The daughter of Moonin The Eagle crossed the wire a neck ahead of Calibre Especial and jockey Jose Guerrero. Post-time favorite Good Bet, ridden by Jame Samuels, followed in third.
Owned and trained by Ricardo Mariles-Santos, Hunny Moon has won her last two of five starts, including the Prineville Quarter Horse Futurity at Crooked River in July. The $4,440 winner's share of today's purse boosted her earnings to $13,870.
Bobby D. Cox bred the son of Moonin The Eagle in Oklahoma. Hunny Moon is a $12,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate out of All Biznez by Corona Cartel.
Trainer Mario Portillo saddle runner-up Calibre Especial for owner Agustina Perez. The son of Soy Especial has one win from three starts and $6,647 in the bank. Juan Rodriguez bred the sorrel gelding in Oregon out of Lsg Deal Me A Lady by Deal Me In Now.
Third-place finisher Good Bet has lit the board four of five starts with one win and $9,971 in career earnings. The Mark Hanson trained gelding placed third in the Bitterroot Juvenile Invitational and Idaho Cup Futurity at Pocatello Downs earlier this season.
Breeder Bryon Good owns Good Bet in partnership with RTM Stables LLC. The son of The Louisiana Cartel is out of Mothers Favorite by Favorite Cartel.
